3 College Football Pick 'Em Picks for Thursday, August 31

Published by Mike Noblin on August 31, 2023

After only a handful of Week 0 games, college football Week 1 blesses us with a full slate that starts on Thursday! A couple of the more intriguing matchups are Florida at Utah and Nebraska at Minnesota.

We've dug into each of the matchups to bring you 3 college football pick 'em picks for Thursday, August 31. We highly recommend these if you play on PrizePicks or Underdog. Good luck and enjoy the games!

Kobe Hudson (UCF) OVER 42.5 Receiving Yards

Hudson transferred in from Auburn and lit it up for UCF in a big way last season. He hauled in 39 receptions for 641 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2022. The 6-1, 199-pounder is poised for a tremendous senior season, especially if John Rhys Plumlee can stay healthy at QB.

I don't understand why this number is so low over at PrizePicks. When we look at last year's numbers, we see that Hudson's median yardage was 58. This is quite a bit below that, which is odd.

The matchup should be highly favorable for Hudson in this one. Kent State is one of the worst teams in college football, and their secondary is a complete mess. I expect the big night from Hudson, so let's ride the over.

Sean Tyler (Minnesota) OVER 77.5 Rushing Yards

Here's another number that's so low it leaves me scratching my head. Tyler transferred in to Minnesota from Western Michigan, and he should be a beast for this Gopher's offense. He may only be 5-8, but he has a ton of speed and the ability to break tackles.

Even with his small stature, Tyler proved that he's a legitimate every-down back. He is coming off back-to-back seasons of more than 1,000 yards rushing. PJ Fleck loves to run the football, and I think he'll give Tyler plenty of carries tonight against Nebraska.

I know last year's numbers were with a different team, but Tyler's median rushing number was 88 1/2 in 2022. Tyler should have no problem slicing through this Nebraska defense. I think the Huskers will be much improved, but they'll still struggle to stop the run for an entire game.

Jeff Sims (Nebraska) UNDER 186.5 Passing Yards

I think Sims will do some good things for Matt Rhule's offense at Nebraska. That being said, Sims is more of a runner than a bona fide pocket passer. He tends to take off and run instead of going through his progressions.

Through three seasons at Georgia Tech, Sims's median passing yardage number was 171, which tells us there's a tad bit of value on the Under. Oddsmakers are expecting a low-scoring game, as this total is sitting at 43. That also makes me like the Under!

Sims could be in for a long night against a pretty stout Gopher's defense. They do lose some folks, but this group was 12 in the country in yards per pass allowed last season. They were also 14th in passing yardage allowed per game. Let's roll with the Under!
