Chargers at Raiders: Our Favorite Plays for TNF Underdog Pick'em Contests
Featuring two backup QBs, take the Raiders’ 3rd down and secondary pass catchers Hunter Renfrow and Michael Mayer to make an impact, while Austin Ekeler should see the most targets from Easton Stick.
RB Austin Ekeler (LAC) - Over 26.5 REC YDS
In a game featuring Easton Stick and Aidan O’Connell as the signal callers, it might be wise to bet on the running backs to have a large piece of the target pie on Thursday night. While struggling as a runner recently, Ekeler has gotten back into his receiving duties as the Chargers’ RB1, hitting this over mark 5 of 9 times post-bye week including 49 yards in last week’s loss to Denver.
With Vegas’ run defense getting better, allowing 100 yards on the ground during their last three games on average, expect Ekeler to wreak havoc as a receiving option.
WR Hunter Renfrow (LV) - Over 26.5 REC YDS
Renfrow was in the midst of the worst season of his career with Jimmy G quarterbacking the Las Vegas Raiders. Since O’Connell took over permanently in Week 9, Renfrow has hit the 27-yard mark in four of five games and is now seeing half of the offensive snaps. Against a Chargers defense allowing a fourth-worst 262 YPG through the air this season, Renfrow should be able to reach this mark again via some short gains on late downs.
TE Michael Mayer (LV) - Over 2.5 Receptions
It’s difficult to bet against a tight end that plays in 80% or more of snaps against a defense that is prone to giving up big plays down the middle. Mayer has gone through his struggles this season, but sitting in the top ten in his position in both yards per reception and target separation, this is a game Mayer could break out in.
DB Derwin James Jr. (LAC) - Over 7.5 Tackles
Derwin James has been flying around all season, hitting this over five times, including the past two outings. With the Chargers allowing the 3rd-most plays per game in the NFL, there should be plenty of tackling opportunities for Derwin James, who has hit this over against teams that play through the middle of the field and utilize their running back in different ways, similar to the Raiders.
