2025 Fantasy Baseball Catcher Rankings: Who Should Be on Your Roster?

We’re working our way through each fielding position for fantasy baseball and at the same time we’re inching closer to spring training and ultimately opening day. This means it’s time to finalize your fantasy baseball draft strategy.

Catcher is often one of the toughest positions to fill in fantasy. There aren’t too many elite hitters behind the plate, so grabbing the right one can give you an edge over the rest of the fantasy teams in your league.

Here are the 5 best catchers to keep your eye on as we head into the 2025 season.

1. William Contreras (Milwaukee Brewers)

Contreras took another step forward in 2024 as he solidified himself as the top fantasy catcher heading into this season.

He hit a respectable .281 with 23 home runs and 92 RBIs. On top of that, he finished with an impressive .831 OPS. His ability to hit for both average and a bit of power makes him a rare fantasy catcher who can contribute in multiple categories.

Contreras also played 155 games, showing his durability despite being behind the plate. While he did walk away from the season with a career-high 139 strikeouts, his 78 runs scored and 165 hits prove he’s more than just a home run threat — he’s an all-around offensive force. With a WAR of 4.9, this is a catcher you want on your team.

If you want the best fantasy catcher in 2025, Contreras is the clear choice.

2. Salvador Perez (Kansas City Royals)

Perez continues to be one of the best power-hitting catchers in baseball and a perennial pick for most fantasy leagues. He might not be as great as he once was, after all, he’s 34 and those knees get a little beat up, but he’s still getting the job done.

He hit .271 with 27 yard bombs and 104 RBIs in 2024. It’s definitely not the same as his 2021 campaign where he notched 48 dingers, but he’s proving he’s still a top-tier fantasy option. His .786 OPS ranked 41st in MLB, but his run production keeps him among the best at his position.

Perez played 158 games, which is categorically impressive for a catcher. His 160 hits and 28 two-baggers show he’s still capable of producing high-level fantasy numbers.

At 34, he’s not getting any younger and that’s our biggest concern with him. However, his bat remains one of the most reliable at the position. If you want a proven catcher who can hit 25+ homers, drive in runs and has a strong supporting cast around him in the lineup, Perez is your guy.

3. Cal Raleigh (Seattle Mariners)

If you’re looking for home runs from your catcher, Raleigh is one of the best options.

He hit 34 home runs in 2024 which is tied for 12th in the league — absolutely unheard of for most catchers. His 100 RBIs also ranked among the best in the position of 16th in the MLB. The downside? His .220 batting average was one of the lowest in MLB. He can swing and miss with the best of them.

Raleigh’s .748 OPS does tell us he has some power, but he struggles to make consistent contact. Given the fact that he struck out 176 times in 546 at-bats, this could hurt his value in points-based fantasy leagues.

If your league values power more than the batting average, which some do, Raleigh is a strong pick. Just be prepared for some streaky production from the Mariner.

4. Adley Rutschman (Baltimore Orioles)

Rutschman didn’t have the breakout year some expected in 2024, but he’s still one of the best fantasy catchers in the league.

He hit a mediocre .250 average with 19 home runs and 79 RBIs, finishing with a .709 OPS. While those numbers definitely aren’t elite for any position, he remains a solid contributor in multiple categories.

One of Rutschman’s biggest strengths is his ability to get on base consistently. He walked 58 times in 2024 which gives him more value in OBP leagues. His 143 hits and 21 doubles also show he can still produce offensively when needed.

He’s not the best of the group, but if you’re looking for a well-rounded catcher with a high floor, we think Rutschman is a solid option for a 5th or 6th round.

5. Yainer Diaz (Houston Astros)

Diaz is one of the most interesting catcher options heading into 2025.

He hit a decent 299 with 16 home runs and 84 RBIs in 2024, finishing with a .766 OPS. His high batting average makes him a nice option in a position where most players struggle to hit for contact.

The biggest downside is that Diaz doesn’t have the same power as some of the other catchers on this list. His 16 homers were the lowest among these top 5, but his ability to hit for average does have the ability to make up for it in the right league.

If you’re looking for a catcher who won’t hurt your batting average but probably won’t fly off the charts with the yard bombs, Diaz is a great pick.

Get Your Fantasy Baseball Roster Ready

Catcher is always one of the toughest positions to draft in fantasy baseball and they tend to go later in the draft, but these 5 players stand out from the rest of the crowd.

Contreras is easily the top choice thanks to his all-around offensive production and he should go in the earlier rounds of your draft. Perez and Raleigh bring a bit of power, while Rutschman provides that consistency everyone is after. Diaz is a strong pick if you want a high batting average from the catcher position.
