3 MLB Player Props for Friday, April 19
Alex Bregman should be a in store for a huge Friday night against the Nats.

Tuesday’s trio of props finished 2-1 with an early afternoon loss followed by a couple of winning tickets in the evening. The Rangers’ Evan Carter went hitless in his team’s loss to the Tigers, continuing the struggles that we had wagered on him to turn around.

The card was salvaged by the pitching duo of Dylan Cease and Jared Jones, who both struck out seven hitters and cashed our final two props of the day. Cease scattered two hits and five walks over six innings to go along with seven punchouts, finishing just shy of his 7.5 K total.

Jared Jones was nearly perfect in just five innings of work against the Giants, mowing down seven while allowing one hit and zero walks on 59 pitches to still cash our over play despite the early hook.

After a nice result on Tuesday, we’d love to head into the weekend on a winning note. Up next, we present our player prop best bets for Friday night, brought to you by Underdog Fantasy.

Nick Castellanos UNDER 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

The man famous for hitting home runs while unfortunate events are taking place or being discussed has struggled mightily to begin the 2024 season. Of 183 hitters with the qualifying number of plate appearances currently, Castellanos ranks 182nd in OPS with a stunning .382 mark.

He’s been nearly a full win below replacement-level in terms of WAR (-0.9), and has just 11 total bases, five RBI, and two runs scored through 75 plate appearances. April has not been kind to the 2023 All-Star.

Castellanos and the Phillies face current White Sox ace Garrett Crochet on Friday night. Crochet has a K:BB ratio of 31:4 through 22.2 innings across four starts, and even though righties have hit him better than lefties this season, they still are only posting a .585 OPS against the 6’6” left-hander.

We don’t expect Castellanos to contribute to Philadelphia’s cause much against this promising young pitcher tonight and will take the under while his struggles continue.

Alex Bregman OVER 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

Bregman has been breaking out of an early-season rut of his own recently. After beginning the year with six hits in his first 40 plate appearances, the third baseman has ten base knocks in his last 32 PAs to raise his OPS nearly 160 points in seven games.

He’s batting in the heart of a loaded lineup that features Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez in front of him with Kyle Tucker and Yainer Diaz protecting him. Following a three-game series at home where they were swept by the Braves, Houston hits the road this weekend to face the Nationals.

Washington will trot out Mackenzie Gore on the hill Friday night, who has been fortunate enough to face the Pirates and Athletics in two of his first three starts. While the ‘Stros have been inconsistent to begin the season, we like Bregman to be a key contributor to their offensive effort against Gore and the Nats.

Julio Rodriguez UNDER 2.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

J-Rod has hit safely in three straight games and six of eight as he begins to dig himself out of the slump that nearly drove his OPS to Castellanos-like levels this April. We documented his penchant for getting off to poor starts in a best bet article last week, and our under play on him cashed easily as the MVP candidate continues to strike out at a high rate (34.6%).

After what looks to be some signs of life from his bat, it feels to us like this line has over corrected slightly. He has five games that would have exceeded this total through 19 contests in 2024, including each of his previous three appearances.

While Coors Field is an enticing venue for road hitters, especially those who call T-Mobile Park home like Rodriguez, we think this number is too high despite recent signs that he’s emerging from this April hibernation. We’ll take Rodriguez to go under the total on Friday night in Denver.
