Top 5 First Basemen for MLB Fantasy in 2025

Spring training is just weeks away, and if you’re like most fantasy baseball managers, you are already strategizing for the upcoming season.

This year, like most years, the first base position is stacked with power hitters who can drive in runs and provide elite-level production.

To help you get your lineup in order, here are the top 5 first basemen to target in fantasy baseball for 2025.

1. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Toronto Blue Jays)

Guerrero Jr. is coming off an absolutely dominant 2024 season where he hit .323 with 30 home runs, 103 RBIs, and a staggering .940 OPS.

He ranked just 2nd in batting average and 6th in OPS among all MLB hitters. His ability to hit for both average and power makes him one of the best fantasy options on the table — for any position.

Playing in a strong Blue Jays lineup, he will continue to get plenty of RBI opportunities. With his deadly combo of contact skills and raw unadulterated power, Guerrero Jr. is the top first baseman to draft in fantasy baseball this season and it’s easy to see why. 

2. Bryce Harper (Philadelphia Phillies)

Harper transitioned to 1B full-time in 2024 and still produced at an elite level — not that we expected anything less.

He hit a solid .285 with 30 dingers, 87 RBIs, and a .898 OPS. His batting average and OPS ranked in the top tier of first basemen, showing he has the ability to provide consistent production throughout the entire season.

Harper also brings an aggressive approach to the plate that we absolutely love. This generally results in XBH and scoring opportunities. 

In the Phillies’ high-powered offense, we think he should continue to be a top fantasy performer. His ability to hit for power and get on base makes him one of the safest fantasy options for the position.

3. Freddie Freeman (Los Angeles Dodgers)

Freeman is one of the most consistent hitters in baseball and if you weren’t a believer in the 2024 playoffs, you surely are now.

In 2024, he hit .282 with 22 home runs, 89 RBIs, and a .854 OPS. While his power numbers dipped slightly from his previous seasons, he remains an elite run producer in an already-stacked Dodgers lineup. He also knows how to produce in high-stress situations.

The main concern we have is his health. He ended the 2024 season with an ankle injury and hasn’t resumed full baseball activities yet. He hasn’t started running but is starting to swing the bat.

If he’s fully recovered by Opening Day, Freeman will once again be one of the strongest fantasy assets in the league. His ability to hit for a solid average and drive in multiple runs keeps him among the top first basemen in fantasy baseball.

4. Matt Olson (Atlanta Braves)

Olson is a pure power hitter and we love that about him. He launched 29 home runs with 98 RBIs in 2024 which simply showcases what he can do at the plate.

However, his .247 batting average and .790 OPS were a bit lower than expected. While he still provided strong run production, his strikeout rate remains a big concern for us. That’s typically what you get with an aggressive-style hitter who leaves nothing on the bench.

In fantasy leagues that prioritize home runs and RBIs, we think Olson is a great option. But if batting average and on-base percentage matter in your league, he may not be as reliable as the other 1Bs on this list.

Still, playing in one of baseball’s best lineups, Olson should undoubtedly put up big power numbers again in 2025.

5. Pete Alonso (New York Mets)

Alonso is another elite power bat at first base that we can’t get enough of.

He hit 34 home runs with 88 RBIs in 2024, ranking among the league leaders in HRs. However, his .240 batting average and .788 OPS make him more of a one-dimensional fantasy player than some of the others.

If you need home runs, Alonso is the man. But he won’t help out too much in batting average or OBP leagues.

The Mets’ offense has been inconsistent, which could impact his RBI numbers. Still, his ability to hit 30+ home runs makes him a top fantasy first baseman and an overall pick in the 40s or 50s.

Get Your MLB Fantasy Lineups Ready

First base is loaded with some seriously strong fantasy options in 2025, though, we don’t think many of these should go in the first round.

Guerrero Jr. leads the pack with his elite mix of dominant power and a sweet batting average. Harper and Freeman provide some well-rounded production, while Olson and Alonso offer massive power potential if you need some HR hitters in your lineup.

As spring training approaches over the coming weeks, be sure to keep an eye on injuries and lineup changes.
