Our Top College Football DFS Lineup for Thursday, August 31
Week 1 has arrived for college football! Let’s start with a few key players you must have in your lineup including Florida's Trevor Etienne and UCF’s star wideout Javon Baker while taking a swing on a Missouri WR who can do it all.
QB Treyson Bourguet (WMU)
Salary: $6,800
The pro-style QB will make a splash in Week 1. Averaging 13 FPPG last season, Bourguet will have a chance to secure the starting spot for the rest of the season in a winnable week 1 matchup.
With one year under his belt, I’d expect more rushing opportunities for the sophomore which could return some nice fantasy value at a discounted salary at the QB position.
RB Trevor Etienne (UF)
Salary: $5,000
Capitalizing on the Florida run game will be key when dealing with DFS lineups in the Florida vs. Utah bout. When Etienne was given ten or more carries in 2022, he managed to reach the 80-yard mark in 3 out of 4 affairs.
Although Montrell Johnson should get the nod as the starter Thursday night, Etienne as a “change of pace back” could terrorize the Utes' defense as the Gators' running attack has always been creative.
Without Anthony Richardson stealing carries and TDs, a $5,000 price tag on the Gator Running Back could turn out to be a huge steal, especially if he gets added goal-line carries in Week 1.
RB: RJ Harvey (UCF)
Salary: $5,200
Harvey broke out in 2022, totaling over 1,000 yards from scrimmage and scoring 5 TDs. Averaging 13.4 FPPG last season and securing a starting role heading into 2023, expect the run game to make a huge splash early for UCF.
RJ is also a capable pass catcher, going for 215 yards on just 22 receptions in 2022. After dominating in the American conference, expect Harvey to do the same in these early non-conference bouts.
WR: Mycah Pittman (UTA)
Salary: $5,000
Mycah’s career hasn’t gone anything like his brother, Michael’s. Entering his 5th season on his 3rd different team, Mycah looks to make a final impact in college, this time back in the Pac 12 with the former Pac 12 Champs.
After having a career season that only resulted in 3 TDs and just over 300 yards, a rejuvenation for Pittman was needed, and with Cam Rising and Utah, watch out for a sneaky breakout season for the outside WR.
In a game that could end up with both teams scoring five or six TDs, Mycah could be a focal point of this offense as the only senior starter in the receiving core.
WR: Javon Baker (UCF)
Salary: $8,000
The former Alabama wideout had a great 2022 campaign, corralling 5 TDs and just about 800 yards. In what could be a 1,000-yard season in a conference where UCF will need to score 30 to 40 points to win in any given week, expect Baker to dominate in non-conference play.
Javon is our deep ball threat this week and could return huge value when he breaks away for his first score of the season.
WR: Luther Burden (MIZZ)
Salary: $6,800
Used as both a receiver and runner in his freshman season, Burden has a low price tag and a huge opportunity in Week 1 to showcase his skills.
With added value as a kick and/or punt returner, Luther is an ideal WR3 for your DFS roster this week as Missouri battles SDU to begin their season.
Although not the flashiest name on the slate, Burden should have a huge target share including some runs out of jet sweep formations this week.
FLX: Tevin White (ASU)
Salary: $4,200
Playing against Southern Utah, there’s a good chance the starters and backups get the same amount of playing time in ASU’s first battle of the season.
White got some run as a freshman in 2022, but the Devils will be looking for a breakout 2nd year for their RB of the future.
Although he is the 2nd or 3rd man on the depth chart, let’s take a swing in our flex for a player who might get more touches than expected in a 2nd half blowout.
S-FLX: Brennan Armstrong (NCST)
Salary: $8,900
Armstrong will make his NC State debut against UConn this week. After a dominant 2021 campaign in the ACC with Virginia, Armstrong tapered off in 2022 throwing more INTs than TDs, never a good sign.
With NC State, he’ll get the chance to play for an above-average offense and defense in a declining football conference.
Starting against UConn, I’m expecting a few deep shots that result in a solid fantasy day for Armstrong and the Wolfpack.
